Rainbow Gardens Pet Memorial Center was officially opened by Dulcie Mills on April 11, 2008 to serve as a place of comfort in Second Life for those mourning the loss of a real life pet or pets. Some services that are offered by Rainbow Gardens include the opportunity to memorialize a beloved pet through placing a photo in our pet viewer, holding a candle lighting service, sending a pet sympathy card, participating in any of our pet-loss related programs, viewing pet-related exhibits, and/or just visiting the gardens and reflecting on some of the heartfelt stories that others share through notecards, photos, and talks. All these services are free, but donations are welcome.
Location Rainbow Gardens is currently located on Cybrary City II in the Information Archipelago in Second Life. The land was granted by Lorelei Junot. Many items were created and donated by Rocky Vallejo, Cindy Elkhart, BrianA Corleone, and others. We have three volunteers who help advertise our programs, create exhibits, and network with other pet-related groups in Second Life. These volunteers are Katfancy Kiergarten, Panama Maramar, and Miraanda Singh. This kind gesture means that we will be able to stay in our present location for another year. Our anniversary event took place on April 19 and included the opening of our exhibit for the ASPCA's "Prevention of Cruelty to Animal" month with the Go Orange theme. Dance attendees were requested to wear something casual in the color orange. We may also have another Rainbow Readings event, speaker program, and new exhibit, as well as some redecorating of the gardens. The opening of a second branch of Rainbow Gardens known as Rainbow Beach was presented to the owner several months ago. This new branch would be located at the Canis dog park sim. This project has been postponed for the immediate future but may be reconsidered in the future. |
